AT Loans Scheme Trial

Limited trial with NSW Health (EnableNSW)

NSW Health is partnering with the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) as part of a trial to test a new way of requesting and issuing Assistive Technology (AT) for older people receiving a Home Care Package (HCP) or Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) Programme.

A 12-month trial will test this concept, leveraging the success and learnings of the EnableNSW Equipment Allocation Program. The trial is scheduled for the South West Aged Care Planning Region (ACPR) and the Riverina/Murray ACPR. If you are a clinician supporting patients in one of these regions, please review the Assistive Technology Loans Scheme Guidelines for more information.

Background information

The Australian Government is delivering a reformed in-home aged care program in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

Under this new program, there will be improved access to services, equipment, and home modifications to help older people to remain healthy, active, and socially connected to their community. The Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT HM) Scheme will be separately funded to give participants upfront access to AT and home modifications to support them to age safely at home.

A key component of the scheme, is the Australian Government trialling the delivery of communication, mobility, and self-care AT through EnableNSW.
