Applying for stock equipment

Equipment within the standard stock range is available statewide without trial

Clinicians who prescribe standard stock equipment through the Equipment Allocation Program (EAP) do not need to trial the equipment with the person (and supplier) before submitting a request. This means that no matter where the person lives in NSW, a trial for standard stock equipment is not required and suppliers should not be engaged for these requests.

Where clinically appropriate, standard stock equipment should be considered in the first instance to meet the person’s need. Any item in the online catalogue that has a green ‘stock’ banner, is part of the standard stock range and will have a unique code known as a SKUID number (formerly known as a part number).

All other self-care and mobility items that do not have a stock banner will require a trial.

There are two ways to apply for the standard stock range. Please use the links below to decide on the right pathway.

NSW Health clinician

For the purpose of EnableNSW Online, a NSW Health clinician is defined as an eligible health professional who is employed by NSW Health and has an eight digit StaffLink number.

How to apply for stock equipment (including clearance)

You can apply for stock equipment using EnableNSW Online:

  1. Log on to EnableNSW Online, using your NSW Health StaffLink credentials
    1. If this is your first-time logging in, you may need to validate your profile. You will see this as an outstanding step on your dashboard when you first login. This approval process may take one (1) business day to validate your profile
  2. Browse products, select the item and add to your cart. You can identify stock equipment with a green stock banner
    1. Please note: clearance items will have a purple clearance banner and a unique item number. These items will only be available for people who live in the Sydney metro areas, with the exception of clearance power wheelchairs, which can be delivered statewide
  3. Review your cart to ensure you have added all the items you need for your patient. If you need to add another item to your cart you should do this before you select create a new application
  4. Select create new application and complete all steps, including patient details. You will also need to complete sections that may not be relevant to the request by indicating N/A
  5. Review and submit
  6. You will receive an email letting you know the request has been received
    1. The request will be reviewed by the EnableNSW team, and you will be notified of the outcome via email. The team process applications within 30 days (unless otherwise specified), however most will be processed sooner if all the necessary information is available, including an up-to-date application form from the patient to assess their eligibility.

A comprehensive system user guide is available on the EnableNSW Online page

*Please note, NSW Health clinicians who also work with patient(s) in a private clinical setting, must use the equipment request forms available on the EnableNSW website. This is also the case for NSW health clinicians who need to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to complete a request, as there is no possibility in sharing EnableNSW Online accounts.

Clinicians who work in private clinical settings

A clinician who works privately is defined as a health professional who looks after patients in a private clinical setting. For the purpose of applying for equipment through EnableNSW, this definition also includes health clinicians who are employed by the Queensland and Victorian health network.

How to apply for stock equipment

You can apply for standard stock using the equipment request forms. You will find the forms and relevant funding criteria grouped together based on their equipment category on the forms and funding criteria page.

  1. View equipment in stock using EnableNSW equipment catalogue
  2. Identify stock items with green stock banner
  3. For both standard stock and clearance items, you will need to add the SKUID number (replaces part number) to the relevant form(s)
  4. You may need to complete more than one (1) form if requesting equipment from multiple categories.
  5. Select the stock option in the table and add relevant SKUID code. For clearance items, please include the SKUID code and the item number
    1. Clearance items will only be available to people who live in the Sydney metro areas, except for clearance power wheelchairs, which are available statewide.
  6. Complete all other sections on the form(s). Incomplete forms will go on hold and delay the outcome for patients
  7. Email your request to enable@health.nsw.gov.au
  8. You will receive an auto-response from the EnableNSW mailbox to confirm the request has been received
    1. The request will be reviewed by the EnableNSW team and you will be notified of the outcome via email. The team process applications within 30 days (unless otherwise specified), however most will be processed sooner if all the necessary information is available, including an up-to-date application form from the patient to assess their eligibility.

* Please note, private clinicians who also work with patient(s) in a NSW Health setting, should use their EnableNSW Online account to request standard stock equipment.
